We are so appreciative to have such great school activities and programs, we wanted to share with you! Halloween and Day of the Dead Performances by the Art and Music Departments - On Halloween, Mr. McFadden and Mr. Maag conspired together to come up with a wonderful celebration of Day of the Dead. To show off TeWinkle’s student’s excellent work and celebrate the spookiest days of the year, the dynamic art and music teachers prepared a Halloween/Dia de los Muertos presentation in Boswell Hall during 3rd period. On Halloween, students and teachers came by during a pre-determined time slot and heard music sung by the TeWinkle Choir and saw artwork inspired by Mexican folk art for the Day of the Dead. What an excellent was to enjoy the combination of cultural expressions and visual and musical talent! The Kindergarten Buddy Program - The Kindergarten Buddy Program is a valuable program that is part of a larger school community.  Mrs. Jacobs’ room 31 students and Mrs. Victoria Clifford’s Kindergarten class travel between TeWinkle Middle School and California Elementary every month. This kind of system helps kids of all ages master concepts, teach and review skills, increase confidence and improve social interaction. The age difference of six years, can reap academic and social benefits. Younger children bond with the older buddy and friendship flourishes as the year progresses. The kindergarten students enjoy the one-to-one attention they receive from their seventh and eighth grade buddies. As the older students assume the role of the teacher, they are motivated to do their best. They also experience pride in their ability to be helpful. Focusing on reading is a great way to encourage academic support and personal connections. Each buddy can take turns reading by sharing their favorite books or stories based on what they’re learning in the classroom, whether it be identifying story elements or practicing reading sight words. It is important for buddies to meet consistently. Participation in the buddy system enhances student’s cooperative learning behavior such as taking turns, listening, sharing knowledge, praising another’s effort, helping one another, and completing a task. Buddy programs promote a favorable school atmosphere. It brings out the best in the students. If there is anything you would like to share with us, email us at info@torellirealty.com and we will be happy to spread the word!Kinder photo 4
