Symphony in the cities 2013

The end of summer brings with it once again, The Pacific Symphony’s Target Symphony in the Cities FREE concert series in three communities located in Orange County.

It’s a great way to spend time with family and friends as you camp out at the event’s open grounds and experience a day filled with activities, fun, and great music.Music director Carl St. Clair will be leading the concert series in 3 cities:

  • Costa Mesa on Friday, July 26 at Segerstrom Center for the Arts,
  • Mission Viejo on Saturday, July 27 at Oso Viejo Community Park
  • Lake Forest on Sunday, July 28 at Pittsford Park.

The event will showcase numerous groups and individuals that possess a reputation and talent in creating music that resonates through generations. American legends like Leonard Bernstein, John Williams, and John Phillip Sousa along with Massenet, Shostakovich, father and son; Strauss, doo-wop group the Alley Cats, and violinist Kotaro Tsutsumi will serenade you with popular and well-loved tunes all throughout the program. All 3 cities begin their concerts by 7pm.Mission Viejo will start “Prelude in the Park” at 4pm, which offers an array of pre-concert activities with a tribute to Korean War veterans. Costa Mesa and Lake Forest will be hosting pre-concert activities like the “Musical Playground” Starting at 530pm. The Musical Program is a perfect platform where children could stretch their curiosity and imagination and explore their musical interests. The playground encourages children to learn and create different instruments of their choice, play a drum in the drum circle, meet popular Symphony musicians, and join the conducting clinic headed by Maestro St. Clair. In an article by Broadwayworld, Maestro St. Clair states that, "At 35, the orchestra has accomplished so much, but not without the support and partnership of Orange County… This season is one that celebrates this partnership and offers an opportunity for Pacific Symphony to demonstrate its thankfulness to the community, as well as have the opportunity to express the artistic excellence we have achieved. We are happy to have this opportunity to provide our friends and neighbors with three free evenings of great music." This year marks the 8th year that, the title sponsor, Target has generously helped make these events possible. The event’s success is also to be credited towards the wonderful communities and their involvement in making this event what it is today. Symphony President John Forsyte states on his interview for Broadwayworld, "We are grateful to Target and our host cities for their continued support and sincere interest in our community," he continues by saying, “Because of them, we are able to offer high-quality music in great outdoor settings to people who might not otherwise have the opportunity to hear these highly gifted musicians. We especially appreciate how hard the cities work to make these concerts a success."
