With warmer months, come many wonderful things. Not on this list are the common household pests that also somehow make their way indoors. Luckily your first resort does not have to be to douse your house in pesticides in order to get rid of them all.

Clear Brush from Around Your House

Just like us, common household pests need shelter. Oftentimes, the very pests that are making their way into your home came from some dwelling directly outside of your home. If you have bushes or other debris surrounding your home, you will want to make sure that it's cleared out. Wood that is stacked or living is a dark home that insects seem to love, so the further you can keep it from your home, the better.

Check Your Drain

A common source of many household pests, especially fruit flies, is the sink. This is a common source for smells and other residue that critters seems to love. Make sure your sink is extremely clean and don't stop there. Pour boiling water down the drain to kill off any living bacteria that is present in the drain pipes. This will disrupt the breeding cycle and hopefully fix your problem of pests in your sink.

Inspect Windows and Trim

Regardless of how much you do to keep the inside and surrounding areas of your home clear and clean, insects may common household pestsstill be tempted to make their way indoors. Inspect all trim including siding for any gaps and cracks. If you find them, you may need to reapply caulk to these areas. Make sure you prep the area by removing any old caulk and thoroughly cleaning the surface. The new caulk should go on relatively easy after this step is complete.
