The reason behind the name is that Costa Mesa used to be a bean field and goats used to roam around. Broadway is the widest street in Costa Mesa. Broadway has the former homes of the officers from El Toro Marine Base and was originally designed to go to down to the beach. Eastside has so many things. We're here at Eat Chow - they were able to encompass the genius of "and": great food and low cost and they are expanding into Newport Beach. We have a 17th Street that is thriving - they don't let a place go vacant. We have live music at Skosh Monahan's, The Harp, Pierce Street Annex, the Little Knight, and Le Cave. Hi-Times Liquors too.The neighborhood is amazing. I grew up on the East Coast and never thought I'd be able to replicate my experience of playing with kids in the neighborhood. We walk to a Blue Ribbon school... People on the Eastside are proud of their homes. It's an eclectic neighborhood of diverse homes and there's a restocking of families with children over here. People are always fixing up their homes. Broadway just got a million dollar 'Safe Routes for School' and will put a sidewalk all the way down. They'll get 40 new trees and a bike lane. We've been able to site destination bike routes to improve bike-ability, walk-ability, and because it's Costa Mesa skate-ability!I believe that Eastside Costa Mesa is a sustainable community because it's a grid-like system: it has transportation nodes, it has south facing homes to take advantage of the sun and Mesa Water's 50th Anniversary tells us that we have a local water supply.
