Costa Mesa, what is June Gloom?

Costa Mesa residents always enjoy lightly cloudy skies, pleasant temperatures, and some humidity in the month of June. This weather phenomenon is referred to by local weather reports as June Gloom. In recent years, some have taken to calling this weather pattern, "May Grey." June Gloom is a thin marine layer caused by clouds forming over the Pacific Ocean, then the coastal winds pushing those clouds inland. High humidity and some mist occur over land when the marine layer drifts in, but rarely results in measurable precipitation. In Southern California, this weather pattern is enhanced by the, "Bight of California," that is marked by the indentation of the Pacific Coast line from Point Conception in San Diego. This pushed the Northwest flow of wind inland, resulting in the marine layer being pushed inland, particularly in the month of June, this is referred to as a "Catalina Eddy."June-GloomYou can read more about Costa Mesa and Southern California Weather patterns by following the links below:Marine Layer FormationCalifornia Visitors GuideWeather WestFor more information on property listings in the Costa Mesa area, contact info@TorelliRealty.com
