Costa Mesa United Golf Tournament Wrap Up
Costa Mesa United, a local nonprofit that raises money for youth sports facilities and programs, hosted the 6th Annual Mesa Verde Classic on Monday, January 17, 2011. The event was a major success! We are so proud to have been part of what will surely go down as the most memorable fundraiser of the year. In case you missed it, the theme of the tournament was "An event at every hole." Our hole sponsored a martini bar and the In-N-Out truck, which gave away delicious burgers to the golfers and volunteers.
One of the most talked about holes was the one featuring the camel (Nadia) and the belly dancers who posed for pictures with the golfers. Two bands rocked the course, Aloha Radio and The Hindu Pirates. Also in attendance:-The Volcom skateboarding ramp -Innovative Results, who did personal training demos-Ty Cannon Personal Training, who did presentations-Sonic Drive-In with their skaters in tow-Salsa dancers, who gave instruction-DJ Eduardo IniestraIt was wild! Plus plenty of food and drinks were generously sponsored by local restaurants like Newport Rib Company, Skosh Monahan's, JT Schmids, The Meat House, Taco Dawg, Dreyer's Ice Cream and more.Steve Mensinger did a fantastic job putting on this event. As for the bottom line the event's expenses are still being reconciled and according to Mensinger, "At this point our gross revenue is roughly $106,000. Our Committee is thrilled and humbled by the community support and the outpouring of volunteers". Our group hoped to set the high water mark for golf tournaments in our community and I think we did! I would personally like to acknowledge Valerie Torelli for providing the creative content and resources to make the course a giant event!"We're all FORE community events like this... It's important that we provide facilities for the youth of Costa Mesa to thrive and develop skills like sportsmanship, teamwork, and self-esteem. Anyone for a giraffe at next year's event?
