Costa Mesa Teacher of the Year

The results are in... The Costa Mesa Teacher of the Year for 2011 is Dana Kahawai of Costa Mesa High School.  She was honored by the School Board along with Newport Beach Elementary School teacher Terri Clarke for doing great work within the Newport Mesa Unified School District. These teachers have gone above and beyond in their service to the students and the community.Why They Were SelectedThese teachers were chosen not only because they are top notch educators, but because they are involved outside of the classroom and are teacher leaders.Dana KahawaiDana has been teaching English at Costa Mesa High School for 4 years and also spent a year at Estancia High School. She is an advisor to the senior class, the National Honor Society and the California Scholarship Federation. Plus this busy teacher writes grants and is an AP coordinator.Terri ClarkeTerri Clarke started as a student teacher in 2003 at Pomona Elementary School. She has spent the last 7 years teaching at Newport Elementary.Great educators held build great communities!
