Costa Mesa Sanitary Department May Offer Locked Cans
Secure Trash Bins May Be Coming to Costa MesaCosta Mesa's Sanitary Department is looking into ways to make trash collection more secure. The Sanitary Department is working in conjunction with Costa Mesa's waste hauler CR&R to distribute containers that will lock to residents who request them. This would give people an opportunity to lock their trash cans and keep others from rifling through them. Santa Ana started using a lockable container program in 2009 and to date it has been successful. Though the program is estimated to cost $10,000, the cost would be covered by CR&R so it wouldn't be a burden to taxpayers. Stay tuned for an update on whether or not this program is approved.Would you want a lockable trash bin?
