Costa Mesa Neighborhood – Mesa North with Colin McCarthy

Colin McCarthy is the President of the Mesa North Community Association and he shared with us his insider perspective on why he loves representing Mesa North.Where is Mesa NorthMesa North is located bounded by the 405 Freeway to the north, Fairview to the West, Baker to the South and the 73 Freeway to the East. Most of the homes built in this neighborhood were built around 1964. There are approximately 800 homes.One of the interesting things about this neighborhood is that there are a number of streets named after Presidents.Trivia Question: One of the “Presidential Streets” is named ‘Johnson.’ Was this for Andrew Johnson or Lyndon Johnson?Do you live on a “Presidential Street?” Comment below!One of the things Colin was proud to boast about is the fact that Paularino School is a California Distinguished School. The community is laid out in a very functional way where the school and park are set right in the middle of the neighborhood.  It’s easy for people to gather there.Mesa North BIG EventsMay - They have a neighborhood garage sale (around the same time we are hosting annual Mesa Verde Garage Sale.)July - They hold a 4th of July Bike Parade with a float. (Mesa Del Mar also has a 4th of July Bike Parade)October - They hold an annual meeting in October at Paularino School. Thanks to Starbucks who donates coffee for the meeting and the garage sale!October/December - There are holiday decorating contests in October and December.They assemble a neighborhood e-newsletter each quarter and alert the neighborhood with banners to let them know it is ready.Thank you Colin for sharing with us your love of Mesa North!
