Costa Mesa Fish Fry 2012 – A Year of Change

The new home of the Costa Mesa Fish Fry - Fairview Park The Costa Mesa Fish Fry is a tradition that locals look forward to each summer. It’s hard to believe that he event is gearing up for its 65th run the first weekend of June 2012! The Costa Mesa-Newport Harbor Lions Club has been the primary host and this year they are teaming up with the City of Costa Mesa and moving the event from Lions Park to Fairview Park. The main reason that the event is moving is due to recent renovations done at Lions Park by the city. Since the Fish Fry brings in heavy carnival rides that cause damage to the grounds, Lions Park will no longer be a suitable spot. However, nearby Fairview Park offers a lot of great opportunities for the future of the Fish Fry. It has more room, more parking and it should also have greater visibility. City Public Affairs Manager Dan Joyce said to the OC Register, “The image of the Ferris wheel up in Fairview Park… you’ll be able to see that from Huntington Beach, maybe Fountain Valley.” The Costa Mesa Fish Fry has made it a goal this year to attract more community group participation and younger attendees. This event is a staple in our city and it will be exciting to watch it grow and bring groups together for a weekend of fun and of course, fish!
