Sled Dogs Overtake Costa Mesa!

This is fun – the OC Register mentioned a great, unique event to check out in Costa Mesa this weekend that’s sure to be loads of fun.  Believe it or not, there will be snow dogs racing through Fairview Park Saturday, Jan. 9 from 8am-11am.  The event, dubbed the “(Not So) Great Serum Run,” will give Siberian Huskies, Alaskan Malamuts, Dobermans, German Shepherds, and more, a chance to their companions through the trails.  It’s sort of a mock take on the Great Serum Run of 1925, which took place in the wilds of Alaska.  Thanks so much to Rachel Reyes, a Costa Mesa resident who started the snow dog group urbanmushing.com in 2005 and who organized this event.Picture of snow dogsResidents of Costa Mesa are lucky that there are so many entertaining events and activities to do here.  If you can't make it this Saturday for the competition, you can always track the Huskies down on any given weekend when dog owners from Southern California gather with their dogs and blaze through the trails.  And if you happen to own a sled dog and want to partake in the fun then this is the group for you!Fairview Park is such a beautiful spot adjacent to the Mesa Verde section of Costa Mesa right over by Estancia High School.  It's undergone some recent renovations and is a great place to enjoy nature paths, plant life, and ocean views.  The snow dog race is just another great reason to head over to Fairview Park and enjoy the recreational options that the City of Costa Mesa offers its residents.
